we wished it was New York

a warm summer evening
he picks me up at the driveway and the doorman greets goodbye
we go up to north babylon and roll a blunt behind a mc donalds
it's september 2
she's got the longest, most beautiful hair
and she says it's not summer anymore
these winds are the winds of change
nothing's going to be the same now

we drive back after i tested manual
i don't want to smoke or drink cause i'm scared
i'm terrified of evening chaos
and the possibility of returning in a couple of hours
to the life that has me trapped
between the sheets
 even before
my summer was gone
